Founded by the Romans, Cordoba was once one of the most important cities in Western Europe and many of its historical treasures remain including the magnificent cathedral. Originally a mosque, the Christians who conquered the city in 1236 were so in awe of its beauty that they built the cathedral within its columns and arches.
